In Rememberance of an Old Friend...

El-Whoppo

For some of us here from the old days, the news I just got is sad.
El-whoppo passed away last week.
He was battling cancer and it won the battle over his body.
I have seen this dreadful disease take away a lot of good people, and I hate to even hear the word anymore.

El-Whoppo was friend from TCA and loved to be involved with the "clan" thing because of the friends. He may have hurt some feelings here a few months ago but I never really believe he had malicious intent.
Those of us that knew him knew that his time was short and will miss him.

Its always sad to see a gamer go, even when you don't really know them. It reminds everyone that we are all but mortals. Mine and I'm sure other's thoughts and prayers are with his family in this time of tragedy.

Who He Was?
El-Whoppo was a member of TCA, USS and UGC. He was no longer with UGC before his passing but he is remembered.

How He Lived?
Like all of us here he was a gamer. He was respected by many, he made his mistakes but paid for them. He never once did something I know of that didn't make him happy or feel alive. TCA honored him with the first Purple Heart they ever gave out due to some surgeries he had. We held a big meeting surprising him with it. He was surprised alright and for a moment it felt good to be an online gamer.

What he meant to UGC?
I dont know why i ask this question as most here dont know him. Whoppo was a good guy, always chatty and talkative, and fond of his wife. Whoppo may not now be a UGC member, but he was here to help us get started. Through all his problems in life we created more in making him chose his friends. For that im sorry.

To Everyone Who Knew Him:
If you knew him you knew he was fun to be around and a good friend. Could always count on him being around when your gaming. In Freespace 2 he was known as an average pilot but had respect from everyone. We fought aliens in video games and in his real life he battled Cancer. He always won in the game with help from his friends but this was one battle he could not win. Cya in Space Whoppo, keep my Bomber warm for me.

I wanted to sincerely thank you for letting us know about El-Whoppo. El was a good man. This is truly a sad day for gamers everywhere regardless of what faction they may belong to. I truly believe that Whoppo lived each day to the fullest of his capability given his situation and I for one am saddened by his leaving. The sadness that I feel is only lessened by the knowledge that his suffering is over. He has left us, but as his friends, we should all strive to remember El-Whoppo so that a part of him will always remain with us. If you are in touch with his wife or family, I would respectfully ask that you please relay my condolences to them for me. I would also like to express my condolences to all that knew El-Whoppo, be them NAC, USS, UGC, and yes even TCA.

We will miss you El-Whoppo, Safe journey and happy trails old friend!

I knew he wasn't well at times and he was fighting it but I'm sorry to say he has passed on.
